Rain Washes Out Match as Australia Keep Chappell-Hadlee Trophy

MOUNT MAUNGANUI (Tazza Globel News) – The second T20I between Australia and New Zealand at Mount Maunganui was washed out after heavy rain, allowing only 13 deliveries to be bowled. With the match abandoned, Australia secured the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, while the final game of the series is set for Saturday.

The day was dominated by showers, with play initially delayed despite a toss taking place. The contest was reduced to 18 overs per side, and later to nine overs, but rain returned before Australia could progress beyond 16 for 1 in 2.4 overs. Travis Head was the only batter dismissed, caught by Devon Conway off Jacob Duffy.

New Zealand made several changes, including the return of Ben Sears from injury, Ish Sodhi’s record 100th T20I appearance, and Jimmy Neesham’s inclusion. Australia rested Ben Dwarshuis, bringing in Sean Abbott.

With more rain in the forecast, the final match on Saturday may also face weather disruptions, leaving the series outcome dependent on the conditions.
