First Supermoon of 2025 to Illuminate Skies Worldwide Tonight- supermoon 2025

Stargazers across the globe are in for a celestial treat tonight as the first supermoon of 2025 lights up the night sky. According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), this marks the first of three supermoons expected to appear this year.

supermoon 2025- The bright lunar spectacle became visible around 8:47 PM and will continue to shine until just before sunrise. What makes tonight’s moon special is its close proximity to Earth — about 224,599 miles (361,400 kilometers) away — making it appear noticeably larger and brighter than an average full moon.

Experts say that this particular supermoon is around 6.6% bigger and nearly 13% brighter than usual. The glowing disc will be hard to miss, even in moderately lit urban areas, offering skywatchers a perfect opportunity for moon photography and casual observation.

SUPARCO has confirmed that the brightest supermoon of 2025 is expected in November, when the Moon will reach its closest distance to Earth — just 221,817 miles (357,000 kilometers) away. The third and final supermoon of the year will occur on December 5, ensuring another round of awe-inspiring views for astronomy enthusiasts.

Scientists explain that a supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with its perigee, the point where the Moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth. Because of this shorter distance, the Moon appears both larger and more luminous in the night sky — sometimes even creating optical illusions where it seems unusually massive near the horizon.

Astronomers highlight that such events not only attract sky lovers but also serve as a reminder of how dynamic Earth’s celestial neighborhood truly is. The brightness of a supermoon can even influence tides, slightly intensifying what are known as “spring tides.”

This stunning lunar display isn’t limited to Pakistan — it’s being observed across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and other parts of the world, depending on local weather and visibility conditions.

For those who miss tonight’s show, there will be two more chances to witness similar cosmic beauty before the year ends. So, whether you’re a professional photographer or a casual observer, make sure to step outside tonight — the first supermoon of 2025 is a sight worth remembering.
