Amid ongoing changes at Cypress City Hall, Councilmember Scott Minikus has stepped down from his position after accepting a job offer outside California.
Originally appointed to the City Council in 2021, Minikus’ resignation — announced during a recent council meeting — caught many by surprise. His departure aligns with his upcoming retirement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he plans to conclude his service by the end of the year.
“I had planned to retire and continue serving Cypress, even considering another run in 2026,” Minikus shared. “But soon after filing my retirement paperwork, I received an incredible job offer that I simply couldn’t turn down.”
Minikus did not disclose specifics about his new role. City Council seats in Cypress are considered part-time positions.
